Terms and Conditions
Internship, Volunteer, and other Programs run by Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon or our affiliates in Peru
Accommodations and food
-
Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon (ASA) provides all accommodations and meals needed for the period of your placement at Finca Las Piedras (equivalent of 3 meals per day, 7 days per week for the entire Program duration).
-
If you spend time away from Finca Las Piedras or other established field sites for your Program, you will be responsible for any expenses related to accommodation and food at those places. No refunds will be given for accommodation and food at Finca Las Piedras not used during the Program period due to your absence.
-
If you participate in ASA-sponsored field trips or weekend activities that are paid separately from the Program fees, ASA will be responsible for providing accommodations and/or meals according to the activity.
-
ASA is not responsible for providing accommodations or meals for any amount of time once your Program has finished, unless you are willing to pay extra for those services.
-
No guests are allowed to stay overnight at our facilities without prior express approval from the management of Finca Las Piedras or other established field sites. Failure to comply with this policy will be considered a disciplinary matter and will be dealt with according to the Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures contained within this document.
Hours
-
Participants in the Internship and Volunteer Programs are expected to work 8 hours per day, from Monday through Friday, during the entire duration of the Program. A break will be given each day for lunch. Due to the nature of the work you will be performing, a reasonable measure of flexibility is expected when arranging your work hours.
-
Participants in the Internship and Volunteer Programs will always have weekends off (Saturday and Sunday). If desired, you can extend your time off with the condition of recuperating the hours missed the following weekend.
-
If you are participating in the ‘Advanced Sustainability’ or the ‘Academic Quarter’ internship programs, you are entitled to one week and two weeks of vacation, respectively. This means that you may choose not to work for one or two weeks out of the 8 or 12 weeks that your program runs, respectively. We strongly recommend that vacation time is not taken at the end of your placement.
Insurance
-
All volunteers and interns are required to obtain their own travel and medical insurance in their country of residence.
-
All visitors must provide the ASA with proof of travel and medical insurance. We will not accept any visitors that have not provided us with this information.
Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures

If you have a complaint about the procedures prior to your arrival, contact our main office at +1 (352) 562-0811 (EST) during regular office hours or write to us at: info@sustainableamazon.org
-
While at Finca Las Piedras, we strongly recommend that you reach out to your immediate supervisor with any problems or complaints. If the problem remains unsolved, or is not solved to your satisfaction, contact the ASA Director in Peru at +51 980-405-863.
-
We will make every reasonable effort to resolve any disciplinary issue the best and fairest way possible. However, it is important that you know that if the problem gets serious, we reserve the right to take appropriate action, including dismissal from the Program.
-
Inappropriate behavior includes rowdiness or drunkenness, failure to turn up to work or leave work without a valid reason, and verbal, physical, and sexual abuse or violence directed towards ASA faculty or staff, other ASA program participants, or members of our community in Peru.
-
Your immediate supervisor at Finca Las Piedras will attempt to address any disciplinary problems in a timely fashion. If the matter is not resolved to our satisfaction within 5 days (or shorter if needed), you may be dismissed from the Program as soon as repatriation arrangements can be made. All costs related to this early departure will be your responsibility.
-
If you wish to stay in the country (Peru), you will leave Finca Las Piedras and the Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon will no longer have any responsibility for your accommodations or food.
-
We reserve the right to suspend Volunteer and Internship program participants from work during the disciplinary process.
