Photographer in Residence 2017
The Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon is pleased to announce a new opportunity for nature photographers at our field site in the Peruvian Amazon!
About us & the resident photographer position
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity in the southeastern Peruvian Amazon. One of the ways we achieve our mission is through public outreach, by working with our local community and by creating broader awareness of Amazonian biodiversity and the threats it faces in our region. We believe that beautiful nature photography and compelling storytelling are among the most powerful tools available to engage the public and promote conservation, and we strive to share our work and the amazing plants and animals that we are working to protect with diverse audiences both within Peru and elsewhere.
We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals to help us share our story through engaging photography and storytelling via social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and Wordpress. Our preference is for macrophotography—insects, other arthropods, or any of the rainforest’s smaller residents, and plants!—although we are open to photographers with a variety of interests.
The resident photographer will be required to furnish the ASA with original material on a daily or weekly basis (photos with captions and/or videos, and blog posts; see below), and in exchange receives free accommodation and 3 meals per day throughout the duration of their stay. Material should be technically, artistically, and aesthetically sound, engaging, and should tell a story that enhances our audience’s understanding of Amazonian biodiversity, the process of research and discovery, and/or conservation challenges in our region. Exact topics should be coordinated with the ASA director to ensure cohesiveness of the organization’s online presence; the director will have final say in material to be published. The photographer will retain copyright to all submitted material, and ASA will have the right to share, with due credit, across its social media accounts.
